A few week ago, I did a blog about sheer tights for men (not realizing that it would turn into a heated debate about how near-sighted women who didn't embrace this trend were.) Some readers argued that men wore tights long before women (and that we essentially stole them), that women were jealous (?), or that women were just being ignorant. Others thought that women should "just get over it" and accept it.
See, here's the thing. It's impossible for women not to associate tights with their mothers. We also associate bras, slips, and granny panties with our mothers. And, if you're upset that the sheer tight trend for men continues to get a bad rap, don't get mad at women, get mad at this guy (who probably rummaged through his wife's stuff while she was at work so he could post pictures of himself on fetish sites). I think women struggle with men in tights because we wear them to have smoother, sexier legs (so we assume that you wear them for the same reason).
If you really want to get us on board with the trend, stop hiding them. Help us get used to the idea by first wearing colored tights under shorts. Show us that it's a fashionable trend and not a fetish thing. (Remember, women equate hiding with guilt, so if you wear flesh-colored nylons under pants, you might not like the reaction you get.)
The truth is, women can learn to accept men "crossing over" into feminine fashion. We got over the idea of men wearing eyeliner. We got used to men carrying purses. And we even got on board with the male g-string. So, I'm sure that we can jump on the 'men in tights' bandwagon too. But things take time (and not all women are going to like it -- the same way a lot of women never liked low-rise jeans for other women.) For the love of God, the United States has been around for two centuries and we still don't have a woman in the White House!
And with that, I leave you with more photos of cute men wearing tights:

Hi Jill! :^)
Thanks for the props! It's cool to make the news. I really appreciate your support. I am a bit surprised that you chose that photo, instead of 1 of the others, but it's all good.
You really reinforced in my mind that I'm on the right track. I kind of wish that I didn't follow that link to see that photo. :^D I really wish that I just trusted you. lol
Even seeing those photos at the bottom of your blog entry helped me to see the contrasts between what some of us are doing and what others are doing. These photos also helped to give a example of what you look for.
I have been wearing skirts & tights around and about for many years …
The main obstacle I encounter is peoples prejudices !!!
The one that stands out , is : a guy who wears a skirt has to be gay !!!
For myself , I have to say that I’m just a regular guy , who has a regular job , a wonderfull soul mate and 2 regular grownup kids !!! And I’m not gay !!!
I enjoy wearing skirts & tights for their comfort , their sensations and aesthetics …
I’m a six feet , 200 pounds with a beard , and I do not compromise my virility when I wear skirts !!!
I agree that the skirted looks for men does not work all the time …
Some wear it well , some don’t !!! But the same can be said for women …
As for myself , I think I look above the average (that’s what my Gf says) …
Skirts for men are slowly starting to show on the market …
I hope this phenomena will become popular enough to become “in vogue” …

After all , a man is the same man in a pair of pants or a skirt !!!
Jill,
As a hose-wearing guy, I truly appreciate your insight. Up to now, exactly how men can receive the much sought after approval (whether we admit to needing it or not) from women regarding our wearing hose has been a mystery to me. Honestly. Your second post on the subject tells us to "just do it", that is wear hose/tights with shorts and don't hide the fact that we wear hose. Fair enough. What needs to be emphasized, however, is that men enjoy wearing hose all year long, especially in the winter. We too love how our legs feel in hose but we also wear them to keep warm. Shorts in the winter is a no-go. I guess we could wear them with our kilts though.
In the future, I am now much more motivated to wear hose with shorts and my kilt. Knowing that the women around me would be more willing to accept what I'm not trying to hide rather than finding out about something that they think we are trying to hide really helps. Thank you again for this insight.
Interesting couple of blog posts Jill, which recognise that there are a wide range of men who wear pantyhose/tights for a number of different reasons. This is still what I would describe as a subculture of men though, rather than mainstream as the majority of guys who want to go down this route grew up thinking they were freaks so they are a nervous, suppressed bunch of people when it comes to wearing openly. But as you indicate, fashion freedom and acceptance only comes about when boundaries are pushed and people are forced to face up to a new fashion. I wear tights openly and get a lot of positive comments although at times I do feel a bit self conscious because there are still people out there who think "Eeeewwww" or "freak" because the panythose fetish people give the rest of us a bit of a bad name. The hosiery industry knows that men represent a large proportion of their customer base but don't appear to know how to respond to this from a marketing point of view. Levee broke the mould a bit with the WoMan range of tights and Gerbe have fully embraced it too, but I think we are still a long way from seeing male pantyhose in the supermarket or the high street. Maybe we all need to see a few more pics like the ones posted here. I have recently seen some guys wearing fashion tights under shorts and it can be a good look.
Jill
Thanks for providing an informed and constructive overview of male tights fashion.
Your open-mindedness is refreshing, when many people (of both sexes) have hang ups on the subject. Previous comments are also pretty well spot on.
I know you have visited my site, which is all about men wearing tights/pantyhose for non-fetish reasons, but for your readers who may not know of it, please may I provide the reference: http://geraden.blog-city.com.

Geraden
Jill, great article and thoughts - thanks!
Peter (in sheer compression tights and shorts)
I would say that the person in your linked picture was the only person not either pissed or wearing them for a laugh...
Matt. - full time wearer.
Thanks for the positive article Jill. Just like pony tails and earings on guys, hosiery on men will take some time to get used to.
I think the best way to educate people is by being non-confrontational.
One thing about wearing pantyhose under clothes, it folds back body hair, obstructing skin breathing, making it hot.
Just “surfed in” from Google looking for something else.
Back in a previous life with my now ex-wife, I use to make an occasional snide remark about pantyhose then one day I learned a life changing lesson.
I use to bicycle 2,000+ miles per year I still do a few hundred. During one of my rides I was on a fast down descent, I went into a corner and come out of it on the pavement through gravel I went down at aprox 220-25mph (OUCH, with other more colorful adjectives deleted). No broken bones, what caused the crash was a broken top tube on the bicycle. I lost a lot of skin, besides the pain of the crash, broken bicycle; you should have heard the wife!!!! L L
Well my right side looked like I was hit with birdshot. My wife could not even stay in the bathroom while I was putting on all the bandages. Monday at work was pure torture the pants rubbed everything and everything screamed in pain. I knew that I had to protect the sores from the pants. So I summoned up some courage and ask my ex-wife if she had any tights I could wear. We were about the same size. She did and that’s when I discovered pantyhose had socially redeeming value.
This could have been a really good bonding between us unfortunately I had my head up my ass and had problems with this mental image that men do not wear pantyhose it’s a “girrlly” thing. So yet another opportunity was missed.
Flash forward 17 years I was given the opportunity to extract my head from my ass. Now I have a drawer full of pantyhose. They do have a purpose in life. Most recently I came home from a plane trip and my legs ACHED really bad I pulled out pair of “graduated compression pantyhose - GCP” and wore them for a week the leg pains went away, so I stopped then one Monday at work I got up from my desk and almost had to sit down again my knees hurt so bad, back into the GCP I now wear them after any heavy exercise and while at work so at least 50% of the time.
Along the way I also learned about kilts the Scottish one’s and then the Utilikits. I gave up on the Scottish kilts as soon as I found Utilikilts. Since then I also figured out on a hot day even Utilikilts can be to hot. So I now have some plain lightweight skirts for hot weather. May be I might go back to shorts & PH for some occasions.
The very first time I wore Utilikilt to work was for Halloween as part of the costume were bright red tights and turtle neck, black Utillikit. The very first comment from the first woman that saw mew was “I hate you” huuugh? “you have better legs than I do!” (2,000 miles a year on a bicycle will do that.)
Thank you for your support of the idea of men getting a little more choice in what we can wear, and still be men.
I am a straight guy that like leggings, skirts with hose, and boots as a fashion choice.
I do not dress to appear feminine, much like women that wear trousers do not dress to appear male. Sure my legs under the hem of a skirt, hosed can look a little feminine, but that is because of social images that frankly are out dated.
I do not wear make up, wigs, or fake breasts. That is crossdressing. I also leave high heels for the ladies, the highest one I wear is 1 1/2 inch. What I do is what women have done for decades. Wear articles of the others genders clothing as my own. Women just have the blessing of having such articles marketed for them.
Leggings started out as unisex and most if not all of the ones I have are just that.
I sadly admit to have curiously looked at the "at this guy" link and I'm sorry I did. That is not (even though I don't wear tights/pantyhose) what most men are trying to accomplish. I'm sure, men and women both have fetishes that we're not very open to telling others about. Be that if we chose to wear something on sex night with the wife or if we just enjoy having them do a certain whatever to us. That's a fetish, but no I'm not at all into what he was doing.
Will I put him down, certainly not. It's his right to wear whatever he wants and to post whatever on some website that he and his friends can see. I have no right to judge anyone, yet that isn't something I would do myself.
The way I would put it is I wish I had never clicked on that link because it shows something I would never do and it's step in the wrong direction. Yet education isn't just about learning what makes people happy and the rose glasses. You have to have the pleasant and not pleasant as well for it to be complete education.
I wear skirts and have shaved my legs for the last few years (because of sports) but never felt the need to wear pantyhose. Have I tried on like family members clothes because I was curious. Of course. I don't think you'll find many people who haven't done something like that in their lives.
I also have a blog..

First, I would like to thank you for your open mindedness in the fact that men can wear Pantyhose/tights with out the fear of being ridiculed. I had tried on stockings when I was in my early teens and always likeed the feel of the nylon against my legs, I had to abandon the idea of wearing for a few years, however I still yearned to to it. When I had leg surgery and the Dr. informed me that I should wear support hosery, I was all over it.
I now wear as we say 24/7 because for one thing it helps with the aching and tiredness of my legs, I have been wearing for so long now thatI just like the security of having my legs encased in the nylon, I feel naked if I don't have my hose on.
At first I was one of those that wore under jeans, I can credit my late wife for encourging me to start to wear with shorts, I took it in small steps and have never looked back. I have had a few off color jokes about my hose, however for the most part, I have had nothing but positive remarks even at work where we have been able to wear shorts for the past 16 years.
So I again thank you for your support
I see why you picked that particular pic. It does make the point.
Some of his other outfies do almost work though.

Your positive support is so refreshing and desperately needed! Thank you so much for writing this, and here's hoping for more fashion equity.

The "this guy" link now needs a login. but found more of him here....

not for the faint hearted.
phmat...
Hell yeah! I wear my hose all of the time and my wife does not care. Stop hating on the hose and let people do what they want to. We are stipulated from an early age at what is right from wrong. Maybe those stipulations need to be over looked, I mean we now have a black president.
Just got a site of mine up where I'm posing in some of my tights... It's porn so be warned but I figured somebody might be interested.

Even till this day, people still think that you changed your mind because they voiced their opinions and argued, or whatever. It bothers me that they are taking credit for something that they never did.
