Cinco de Mayo Style

You don't have to be Mexican to appreciate the sights and sounds [and hangovers] of Cinco de Mayo. (For my international readers not familiar with this American holiday, it's an annual celebration that commemorates the victory of Mexican forces led by General Ignacio Zaragoza Seguín over French forces in the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862.)

In addition to feasting my eyes on the elaborate dresses worn by Cinco de Mayo dancers, I always look forward to the parties, the music, and most of all, the margaritas! So, to celebrate Cinco de Mayo 'Trendinista style,' I've pulled together some of my favorite margarita recipes along with some Cinco de Mayo-worthy looks :)

Electric Margarita

• 1 1/2 oz tequila
• 1/2 oz Blue Curacao liqueur
• 1/2 oz lime juice

Moisten the rim of cocktail glass with a lime wedge, and dip in salt. Combine tequila, blue curacao, and rose's lime juice in a shaker half-filled with ice. Shake well, and strain into the cocktail glass. Garnish with a lime wedge, and serve. Courtesy: drinksmixer.com

Gummi Bear Margarita

• 1 1/2 oz tequila
• 1 oz Watermelon Pucker
• 1/2 oz triple sec
• 1 oz sour mix
• 1 oz cranberry juice
• dash of grenadine
• sugar for rimming
• Gummi Bears for garnish

Rim a chilled margarita glass with sugar, fill with ice and Gummi Bears. Pour the ingredients into a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake well. Strain into the prepared glass. Courtesy: Voodoo Tiki Tequila

Passion Margarita

• 3/4 oz Alize Gold Passion liqueur
• 3/4 oz tequila
• 1 oz Cointreau orange liqueur
• 3/4 oz fresh lime juice

Shake all ingredients well with ice and strain into a chilled cocktail glass rimmed with coarse salt. Garnish with a lime wheel, and serve. Courtesy: drinksmixer.com

Prickly Pear Margarita

• 2 1/2 oz Voodoo Tiki Desert Rose Tequila
• 1/2 oz triple sec
• 2 oz sour mix
• 1/2 oz orange juice
• dash of grenadine to color
• sugar coated lime wheel for garnish
• salt or sugar for rimming

Pour the ingredients into a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake well. Strain into a chilled margarita glass with a sugar or salt rim. Garnish with a sugar coated lime wheel. Courtesy: Voodoo Tiki Tequila
