Alexis Mabille's Weightless Worms

For what it's worth, almost every piece in Alexis Mabille's Fall 2008 collection left me feeling completely uninspired. (Think black dresses with piqué shirt bibs, navy silk schoolgirl shifts, etc.) But there were a handful of pieces with weightless flowing ruffles, draped chiffon, and gathered tulle that caught my attention.

These pieces possessed an airy softness reminiscent of the transparent parchment worm (a deep sea creature that effortlessly floats along the sea bottom). In times of crisis, these fascinating freaks-of-nature can break themselves into several pieces as a mode of survival, something Mabille should consider doing with this collection if he wants me to pay attention come Spring '09 ;)
