In 2006, London-based label 'Voyage' designers Rocky and Louise Mazzilli shocked the fashion world with a collection containing controversial Nazi-inspired prints (including one of Hilter sunbathing naked with the caption "Wish You Were Here.") They were later tossed from a Soho nightclub for parading around in swastika-printed garments, with Rocky stating that the symbol was merely a statement of anarchy, rebellion and nonconformism. (Um, yeah. Whatever. You're an idiot.)
The Nazi swastika then began appearing on Harajuku girls, with entire stores in Tokyo dedicated to this form of fascist fashion. One possible explanation lies in the book, "Nazi Inventions" in which author Takeda Tomohiro writes:
"Did you know that the Nazis were responsible for TV, highways, space travel, and other wonders of the modern era? At last, someone bravely sticks up for the Nazis and restores their honor as Mothers of Invention for a New Tomorrow. Now I finally understand why all those kids in Harajuku proudly wear the swastika: they are saluting the innovation of the Autobahn!"I wonder if they would also find children in Nazi death camps cuter if they were wearing Hello Kitty t-shirts?
Now, sugary-sweet Nazi creations are popping up which has me wondering if the holocaust is still taught in public schools? Because, with just a small bit of research, these kids would know something else about the Nazis: They murdered millions of Jews, Gypsies, Czechs, Poles, Catholics, the mentally and physically handicapped, homosexuals and others not belonging to the "great race." (Just wondering -- If 'kawaii' is the Japanese word for 'cute', what are the Japanese words for 'duh,' and 'oblivious'?)

This is bizarre -- in a strange connection, I was watching an interview with Mel Brooks yesterday, and he said that as a Jew he felt th only way to "get back at" Hitler was to make jokes about him (thus, the hilarious musical number from the Producers). I think he had a good point, but he is Jewish and he has a historical and emotional connection with the events of the holocaust...these kids just seem dumb and naive...and cruel? I'm not sure what these fashion statements are trying to achieve except shock value...but I see no value in this particular form of shock.
I think the SS uniform outfits worn by teenagers in harajuku are way older.
They are inspired by Japanese Rockbands like Due le Quartz and Malice Mizer (boys dressing like girls oder just costumating very wildly, that's why this kind of music is often called VISUAL key (=group, clique)) which have worn uniforms during concerts and tried to make ultra stylish CD Covers with swatiska symbols and stuff

However, so is everyone's overreaction. The Holocaust isn't going to happen again. Not all Nazis were bad people. Not all Nazis worked in concentration camps. Not all Nazis gathered up Jews.
Also...Nazi uniforms are well designed and eye-catching.
To the Asians buying into this fad, Nazis are seen as the epitome of class and wealth because most of them (and the rest of us) see pictures of the SS and their snazzy uniforms. They also do not learn about the war the way Europeans, Canadians, and North Americans do.
When you take away the slaughtering of the Jews, the Nazis didn't really do anything necessarily wrong...in terms of war. Invasions happened before then, and they'll happen in the future. The world has not become stagnant; empires will rise and fall as they always have.
Those who were not educated about the war correctly look at the 'power' of the Nazis, their uniforms, their discipline, etc. and they find it attractive. I think its wrong to automatically call them sick people...they don't see these things with the same connotations the rest of you do.
Just imagine the world a few hundred years from now...and how WWII might be viewed then. There might be little American teens running around in futuristic Nazi uniforms...if America is still even around.
