Like many of you, I grew up perplexed by the tale of The Emperor's New Clothes. For those of you not not familiar with the story, let me get you up to speed: An emperor who cares more about clothes than his kingdom commissions two designers who promise him the finest suit of clothes from the most beautiful cloth. This cloth, they tell him, is invisible to anyone too stupid to see it (when in reality the cloth is a myth -- it doesn't exist.) The emperor takes the bait and the con-artists go on a spending spree.
The Emperor's New ClothesAfter a week of 'working' feverishly around the clock, the designers present the emperor with his new 'untouchable' outfit. Unable to see it, he fears that the designers will label him stupid and agrees to parade around the city to show of his new duds. In the end, his huge ego and inability to acknowledge the truth makes him the laughing stock of the kingdom. After all, he spent thousands of dollars only to walk around in nothing but his very own birthday suit. (Does anyone see where I'm going with this?)
Christian Dior, Fall 2009Don't get me wrong, I totally get the beauty of sheer, gauzy, ethereal fabrics. What I don't get is walking around in clothing that isn't really clothing at all. Maybe I'm just jaded because the emerging 'invisible' trend is for the Size 2 community. And maybe I'm just pissed because my perky 18 year old breasts are a distant memory. Or maybe I'm just over a trend that hasn't even really begun (because, unless you want to thinly veil your muffin top and cellulite under an expensive designer dress, you're better off dropping a few bucks on a weekend getaway to a nudist spa. Because that, my friends, is where you can really let it all hang out and nobody will care who -- or what, for that matter -- you're wearing!)

amen. i hate this trend because the wearer assumes that i want to see what's underneath their clothes.
This is a pretty ridiculous trend, although I am kind of digging the Charles Anastase look at the bottom. That's sort of do-able. Perhaps a sheer crinoline?

I've never been a fan of the sheer trend, although Anastase styles it in a bit more wearable way. I do love the Dior with the sparkly stuff underneath, but for bedroom only please!
Can I beg to disagree? I can!??? great! I love it and can't think of anything better than a sheer skirt and a mesh top! For runway it's all about the shock tactic but in real life this is where good styling comes in. Layering is key and working it with attitude the lock. This trend is a sheer delight I say! heart.
