When Katy Perry was spotted wearing a flying pig ring in May of this year, she nonchalantly responded "Since swine flu is super trendy I wanted to make sure I was in style with my swine flu ring!" Cute response, but she probably made it up on the spot for effect. I say this because, prior to the swine flu outbreak, the trend began rearing it's bacon-wrapped head in '08 with items like Moschino’s pink satin piggy bank 'Percy' and Ted Noten's white nylon pig bracelet. (You might even recall those cute pig bags in a post I did a few months back which were undoubtedly in the works sometime last year.)
My best guess is that designers are feeling inspired by the recession, making the pig (most notably recognized as a place to store your pennies) the hero of the moment. Either that, or designers are simply moving away from the jungle and into the barnyard, which would explain these fab pork-inspired rings. Which ring is your favorite? Or is this a trend you're going to steer clear of?
