Sweet Mary Janes

My first pair of Mary Jane's probably dates back to the age of three, although I would have to confirm this with my mother. Their signature single buckle strap design with low heel and broad, rounded closed toe has seen it's fair share of variations over the years, but it's classic appeal has remained relatively unchanged since the term "Mary Jane" was coined in a Buster Brown cartoon over 100 years ago. They made a huge comeback in the 80's with babydoll dresses, then again in the 90's with the gothic lolita trend. Now, with designers like Miu Miu and Mary Katrantzou putting a modern spin on an old classic, the Mary Jane will surely begin to gain more momentum in 2011. Keep your eyes peeled!
